STAM BLASTS VIEIRA

MANCHESTER UNITED defender Jaap Stam has slammed Arsenal's French midfielder Patrick Vieira for the way he conducts himself on the football pitch.

The Dutch international made the comments in his soon-to-be-released autobiography 'Head to Head' which read:

"Patrick does stupid things. He is a great player but he ruins his game by picking up too many cards for stupid things.

"There's always an elbow here or a sly kick there, and when you look at him it's easy to see when the red mist is about to descend.

"His whole style involves playing on the edge, and if you play like that you can expect to get on the wrong side of a referee now and then."

The claims by Stam are likely to add further spice to the Arsenal and Manchester United rivalry with the Premiership kick-off just four days away.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger previously accused The Red Devils of trying to 'tap' Patrick Vieira when he appeared destined to say 'au revoir' to Highbury.
