PSG FORCED ME OUT - ROBERT

LAURENT ROBERT has revealed that he was forced out of Paris Saint Germain against his will.

The Newcastle United new boy, who made an impressive debut for The Magpies in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday, claimed that the French club wanted to sell him, despite PSG coach Luis Fernandez suggesting that the player himself was looking for a move.

The skilful winger admitted that he would have stayed at the Parc des Princes for another season if he could have, but that his poor relationship with Fernandez meant he had to leave.

Robert's future at the Parisian club had been placed in doubt after a fall-out with his manager, and the player claimed that Fernandez made it look as if he wanted to move so to keep the crowd on his side.

"There was a clash of personalities between the PSG coach and I," said Robert."I didn't want to leave but PSG wanted me to go. I could have stayed for another year but Paris contacted Newcastle and tried to push things on.

"He [Fernandez] would treat me like a child.

"He'd pick me every other match and did not show me respect. Then in my last game for PSG the fans booed me. That came as a shock because they adored me, but they thought I wanted to leave."

The 26-year-old star also admitted that he did not do himself any favours with his attitude at PSG and he hoped to learn from his mistakes at Newcastle.

"After I started doing well for PSG everyone was talking about me," said Robert.

"Things went far too quickly and I couldn't cope with all the attention," he said. "I got big-headed without realising it. Unfortunately, my team-mates didn't help me so things just carried on like that.

"Now I've made the move to Newcastle I realise I have a lot to learn and I hope this club will enable me to attain a new level. It's a superb club and a cut above PSG."
