DONS ADMIT HAWORTH INTEREST

EXCLUSIVE
ABERDEEN have confirmed that they are interested in signing Wigan Athletic striker Simon Haworth, although no deal has been completed yet.

Reports in the Scottish press suggested that a three-month loan deal was close to being closed, although an Aberdeen official told planetfootball.com that this was not the case.

"Simon Haworth is a player that we are interested in signing, although nothing has happened as yet," she explained.

"He is definitely somebody that we have looked at, though, and the manager is very interested in bringing him up here."

It seems unlikely that Wigan boss Paul Jewell would allow Haworth to leave the JJB Stadium at this juncture, as he is currently down to just twelve fit professionals following injuries to Andy Liddell and Peter Kennedy during Saturday's defeat at Brighton.

Haworth, 24, has notched an impressive 34 goals in 80 league starts for The Latics after having joined them from Coventry for a fee of £600,000 in October 1998.
