HENCHOZ REVEALS DELIGHT AT REDS DEAL
The Swiss international, who played a pivotal role in The Reds' treble cup success last season, has signed a two year extension to his present deal which will keep him at Anfield and he has admitted he is delighted to have agreed a new deal.
The former Blackburn Rovers ace, who has formed a commanding defensive partnership with Finnish international Sami Hyypia in The Reds team, revealed that it was the opportunity of challenging for honours and playing at the top level that convinced him to sign a new deal.
"I can reveal it is partly because of competitions like the Champions League and the Super Cup that I have just signed a new contract with Liverpool," Henchoz told his official website. "It is also because this is a great club.
"Winning three cups last season was fantastic in itself, and I think we can go on to win even more things in the next few years.
"I had two years left on my contract, but the one I have signed takes me up to 2005. In other words, it's a four-year deal. I am very pleased to have put pen to paper.
"Obviously the sporting aspect is important when it comes to signing contracts. But at any club, especially one which is outside your own country, you have to consider other things. Basically you have to be content with things in general.
"Well, I am. I have been in England for four years now and I have adapted to life over here. I am perfectly happy with my football life in Liverpool and also my life outside of football.
Henchoz has become the latest Liverpool player to pledge his future to the club following Steven Gerrard, Dietmar Hamann and Jamie Carragher signing new deals, while Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler and Sander Westreveld are expected to agree new deals soon as Gerard Houllier ties down his best players on long-term contracts.
