FLETCHER BOOST FOR CHERRIES

BOURNEMOUTH received a boost on Thursday when it emerged that Steve Fletcher should be fit enough to make a return to first-team action within the next three months.

The 29-year-old Cherries striker underwent an exploratory operation on a knee injury which revealed that the damage is less serious than was first feared.

Club physio John Cooper told the club's official website: "To know that he will be back in eight to 10 weeks is a bonus to me because in my experience of this type of injury, it can take five to six months for recovery."

Manager Sean O'Driscoll added: "There's no point in rushing Steve back. We struggled without him against Torquay but don't want to risk losing him for a few months.

"Hopefully this exploratory op has told the surgeons all they need to know and he can concentrate on making a full recovery."
