POMPEY EYE ILIC LOAN DEAL

PORTSMOUTH are trying to sign Charlton Athletic's Sasa Ilic on loan as they try to ease their goalkeeping problems.

Pompey boss Graham Rix is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper on loan for this weekend's clash against Gillingham, with Dave Beasant injured.

Rix only has youngster Chris Tardiff as cover and he wants an experienced shot-stopper on a temporary basis until Beasant recovers fitness.

The club are still waiting to hear if they can have Japanese international keeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi on trial so that they can decided whether or not to make a permanent move for his services.

The South Coast club have been linked with Everton's out-of favour Thomas Myhre and Liverpool's Pegguy Arphexad, but now they have enquired about Ilic.

Pompey director of football Harry Redknapp, who had Ilic on loan at West Ham during his time in charge at Upton Park, has approached Addicks boss Alan Curbishley about the availability of the 29-year-old.

'It's difficult trying to get someone in on loan," said Redknapp. "I've been in touch with Alan Curbishley about Ilic, but we're keeping our options open."
