MACKEN HANDS IN TRANSFER REQUEST

JONATHAN MACKEN has stunned Preston North End by handing in a transfer request.

The club confirmed on Friday that the former Manchester United starlet had officially put in a transfer request to North End manager David Moyes.

The Deepdale board are set to meet later on Friday to discuss the request and decide whether or not to accept it.

The news is sure to alert Wolves boss Dave Jones, who has been tracking the highly-rated striker for some months now.

Wolves have already failed in three bids for the 24-year-old ace, but they are set to renew their interest in Maken now he has made it clear he wants to leave the Lancashire club.

Jones has been looking for a new striker for some time and he had been linked with moves for Manchester City's Shaun Goater and former Molineux star Ade Akinbiyi now at Leicester City after failing to land Macken.

Macken's decision to hand in a transfer request is a big blow to North End, who had hoped to kee their top scorer of the last two seasons, as they tried to mount another promotion challenge.
