MURPHY- WE MAY HAVE TO COPY EURO CHEATS

LIVERPOOL midfielder Danny Murphy believes that his team-mates will have to learn some dirty tricks to live with the best in Europe in this season's Champions League.

The Reds were left frustrated by Boavista's time-wasting tactics and non-stop breaks for injuries in Tuesday night's Champions League draw with the Portuguese champions.

Seven Boavista players were booked, four for time-wasting, as they looked more than happy to come away from Anfield with a point in the group's opener.

The former Crewe man feels that Liverpool should copy that example when they go on their travels this season if they want be successful.

"Maybe we should do a bit of that," said Murphy. "It's annoying to play against but it works well in these games.

"There were players going down all the time, it was breaking up the game. The referees stop and start the action and away from home it could be beneficial."

The Portuguese side were masters of playing for time and it could be Liverpool have to get more street-wise in this cat-and-mouse competition.

Liverpool captain on the night Sami Hyypia was also unhappy with the play-acting of the Portuguese team, but he understood that it was what all teams do nowadays.

The Finn believes Liverpool may have to be more street-wise if they are to recreate the success of last season's Uefa Cup campaign in the Champions League.

"It's silly to see them going down, pretending to be hurt, then getting up 30 seconds later," said Hyypia.

"I don't like it but it's in their blood. Players are taught it from an early age in southern Europe.
