SEVILLA TRIO FACE JAIL FOR ASSAULT

A LOCAL prosecutor has asked for an eight year jail sentence for three Uruguayan stars; Marcelo Otero, Nicolas Olivera and Marcelo Zalayeta, who currently are on Sevilla's books.

An incident in a nightclub in December 1999 has led the courts to seek this outcome, although considering the abuse that the trio faced, there was extenuating circumstances.

Having suffered verbal abuse from some locals, the players got into a fight with three men.

The court will sit on October 9 and the accusors are also looking for a 19.5 million pesetas (£73,000) fine in compensation, whilst the prosecutor is only seeking a fraction of that.

Zalayeta's wife was also with the group and she was insulted by the gang, it was this that the players took exception to and he followed the three before attacking them.
