NIVEN DEAL CRASHES AS McGILL SIGNS
CARLISLE UNITED'S bid to sign Barnet midfielder Stuart Niven has fallen through, although impressive Sunderland winger Brendan McGill has agreed to spending another two months in Cumbria.
The Division Three strugglers were interested in offering Niven a loan spell before making any commitment over a permanent deal, but the re-signing of McGill turned the entire deal upon its head.
All clubs are limited in the number of loan deals that they are able to participate in throughout the season and, after the Sunderland youngster's recommitment, The Blues were left with just one long-term loan spot available.
And, although Niven was prepared to commit to a short spell at Brunton Park, he was not so keen on the prospect of an extended trial spell in The Border City.
