MPENZA EXPLAINS INJURY TORMENT

SCHALKE pariah Emile Mpenza has hit back at Rudi Assauer's claims that he did not do everything in his power to regain fitness and believes he needs time to recover from injury.

The 23-year-old front-man was suspended by The Royal Blues after poor performances in the Bundesliga and Champions League but the Belgian star maintains injuries have affected his displays on the pitch.

"I am not joking around. I have been playing for Schalke in pain for the past two seasons," explained the Belgian international.

"I will probably have to have my hamstrings operated on and rest for six to seven weeks.

"Part of my wage has been frozen for something I haven't done and I am disappointed that it has come to this."

Schalke's ostracization of their record signing has alerted a host of potential buyers but the ace pledged his future to the Gelsenkirchen club.

"My time at Schalke is not over by any means. I will go back there even if it is for the reserve-team," added Mpenza.
