PSV CLAIM COCU AGREEMENT

PSV EINDHOVEN chairman Harry van Raaij believes he has first refusal should Dutch international Philip Cocu decide to leave Barcelona.

Van Raaij asserted that the Dutch champions forged an agreement when Cocu moved to Camp Nou from PSV in 1998.

"When Philip Cocu leaves, he reports himself to me," claimed van Raaij.

"When I saw him recently, we confirmed that the agreement still stood.

"He is contracted until the end of the next season, so they will talk about his future at the end of this championship.

"I will officially report myself and say that I am interested. But the decision is ultimately with Philip.

"He has to say: this is my last season at Barcelona and I want to return to PSV.

"I have got the impression that he would like that.

"Philip knows all the ins and outs of our club."

Van Raaij believes the versatile 30-year-old has a lot to offer, adding: "Because he picked up experience with us, Barcelona and the national team, he can make it much easier for young players."

Cocu started his career at AZ Alkmaar at the end of the 1980s, before spending five seasons with Vitesse Arnhem.

He then joined PSV in 1994, and it would seem that he could be set for a return to the Philips Stadion.
