DERBY SEAL CARBONE LOAN DEAL

DERBY COUNTY have signed Bradford City striker Benito Carbone on a three-month loan deal.

The Rams have revealed that terms have been agreed with the Yorkshire outfit, who have been fighting a losing battle to hang onto the Italian following their relegation from The Premiership last season.

Rams manager Colin Todd revealed that Carbone is the sort of player he wants at Pride Park.

"Benito is the type of player we need at this football club because he is going to give us much needed momentum going forward," said Todd.

The former Sheffield Wednesday ace is expected to make his debut for The Rams on Saturday at home to Charlton Athletic.

Carbone will team-up with close friend Fabrizio Ravanelli at Derby and will be third player to sign this week following the arrival of Luciano Zavagno and Pierre Ducrocq.

The Italian star was delighted to be back in The Premiership and he is hopeful of helping the club to avoid relegation.

"This is a chance for me to be back in the Premiership and I am very happy about that," Carbone told the club's official website. "It will be nice to be playing big games every week.

‚Ç£I am ready to start playing for Derby and I hope that I can do well for the team. I have a lot of ambition to play for this club.

Derby will help finance any deal with the sale of Seth Johnson, who is expected to complete his £7 million move to Leeds on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Bradford chairman Geoffey Richmond has admitted that should the deal become permanent new funds could be made available for Bantams boss Jim Jefferies to bolster his squad."The move was initiated by Derby when Colin (Todd) rang Jim (Jefferies) on Tuesday," said Richmond.

"Jim put it to the player, who reacted positively - a natural wish to play in the Premiership.

"Jim's view is that if it does become a permanent transfer then the monies it releases from the wage bill would perhaps enable him to bring in five or six quality players.

"Jim feels he does need some younger legs because more of a feature than the size of the squad - we have got 24 professionals - is the age of the squad, the average of which he feels needs to be reduced.

"Until it does become a permanent - and no fee has yet been discussed or agreed with Derby - then it is frustrating, although it does create a little bit of freedom."

Jefferies is determined to strengthen his squad to maintain their promotion bid and one player he could move for is Derby's Lee Morris, who he watched score a hat-trick on Wednesday night for the reserves against Arsenal."I did take a look at him and even though he scored a three and he did well, I feel I need to take another look," said Jefferies.

"He is not a prolific goalscorer and I saw him on a night when everything went for him, so I will have to think about."

Jefferies is also being linked with a swoop on his old club Hearts for Spanish winger Juanjo, who is set to leave to Tynecastle on a free transfer and he hopes to get money to bring in new players.

"The chairman has said if Beni went it would allow me to strengthen the squad.

"If it does become permanent then the club will save a fair bit, but from my point of view it's another one away from what is a small squad anyway.

"If I get any money, because it's initially a loan deal, I will have to wait and see, and if I bring in someone in then it's got to be the right one."
