BASSETT COOLS INTEREST IN DODDS
Bassett had targeted the former Dundee United ace as the man who can score the goals to fire his team to safety and he was given permission to talk to the former Scottish interational by Rangers.
With his side currently marooned at the bottom of the table Bassett is keen to bring in new players as soon as possible and he wanted him on loan until the end of the season, but he cooled his interest after finding out the player was looking a permanent move. "We made an enquiry about Billy Dodds and tried to get him on loan until the end of the season," said Bassett.
"But then the goalposts changed in terms of any deal, and so now we will be looking elsewhere.
"I am still looking to bring in a couple of faces in the next couple of weeks on loan to freshen things up, because at the moment we will have to sell if we are to buy.
"We've now had a couple fallen through but we are working on things, and there are a couple in the melting pot."
Dodds has found himself out-of-favour at Ibrox this season and he has only made two substitute appearances in the SPL this term.
The 32-year-old has found himself well down the pecking order at Ibrox behind Tore Andre Flo, Ronald de Boer, Claudio Canigga, Michael Mols and new signing Shota Arveladze in a fight for place in the front line.
Meanwhile, Leicester have revealed that coach Garry Parker has left the club.
The former Nottingham Forest ace, who spent six years at Filbert Street as player and coach, has decided to leave after talks with Bassett.
Parker had acted as caretaker manager in the wake of Peter Taylor's exit and he was in charge for the Worthington Cup defeat to Leeds United earlier this month.
"Garry came to see me last week to talk about his situation," said Bassett.
"He feels it would be difficult for him to undertake the additional duties and responsibilities we would require of a reserve team coach.
"It has all been done very amicably and he leaves with our best wishes for the future."
