FERGUSON MOVES FOR PRESS EMBARGO

MANCHESTER UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson has advocated that managers unify in a press ban to highlight the spate of sackings that have hit the early part of this season.

An unprecedented number of mangers have been asked to leave their posts, and League Managers Association boss John Barnwell admits that it was Ferguson that suggested the most dramatic action.

"Sir Alex suggested at a committee meeting that managers should down tools one weekend and have nothing to do with the media to highlight what has been going on," said Barnwell.

"We are not, hopefully, facing that situation yet but the boys are getting so frustrated and we are absolutely appalled by the lack of creditable effort being made by the clubs to sort out these long-running issues."

Meanwhile Juan Sebastian Veron has told of his happiness at Manchester United, and thanked everyone at the club for helping him settle so fast.

"I am very content with life at United," Veron told the News of the World.

"I am very comfortable here. The club have done a lot to help me settle in and I hope to repay them by helping realise the wishes of everyone here.

"I am very grateful for all the help I have received since I arrived in the country. I haven't found the language a major problem but obviously I'm not yet able to engage in long conversations with the other players.

"Everyone was aware I couldn't speak English when I arrived but I am taking lessons every day and improving all the time.

"It hasn't been a problem on the pitch, though. After my goal against Tottenham I was hugged by everyone. I have bonded with my team-mates. There is a nice rapport between us.

"I am taking it day by day and I thank United for having given me the enjoyment of running, dribbling and thinking only about the ball.

"That is my life and I have rediscovered the pleasure of football.

"United found me a nice house, a school for my daughter and I have received total support, something Lazio did not guarantee me last season. In Manchester, I am treated like a king."
