WOLVES ROAR BACK TO THE TOP
The home side broke the deadlock courtesy of an unfortunate own goal from Gareth Taylor after ten minutes.
Alex Rae (pictured) doubled the lead just ten minutes later to put them in total control with his second goal for the club since his move from Sunderland.
Scottish international Colin Cameron then netted the third in the 39th minute with his second goal of the season to round off a good day for Dave Jones' side.
Crystal Palace kept the pressure on Wolves and moved back into second spot with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Norwich City at Selhurst Park.
The Eagles looked to be cruising to victory when they powered into a three-goal lead after 65 minutes, but a late Norwich comeback threatened to spoil the day.
Republic of Ireland international Clinton Morrison grabbed a brace either side of the half-time break to put the home side in control.
The in-form hit-man broke the deadlock four minutes before the break and grabbed his second in the 53rd-minute for his 11th league goal of the season.
Morrison's strike-partner and Scottish international Dougie Freedman then got in on act with the third in the 65th-minute for his tenth goal of the season and it seemed Palace were in for an easy victory, but City made them sweat with a late onslaught.
French striker Marc Libbra pulled a goal back on 70 minutes and Welsh international Iwan Roberts grabbed a second from the penalty spot four minutes from time, but Palace held on for the win and all three points.
Barnsley gave caretaker boss Glyn Hodges the best possible start to his time in charge of the side with a hard-fought 3-2 win over West Bromwich Albion at Oakwell.
It had looked bad for the home side when Andy Johnson fired the visitors in front after just ten minutes with his first goal for the club, but the lead only lasted a minute as Bruce Dyer drew the sides level.
The Tykes then went in front on the stroke of half-time with a penalty from loan signing from Sunderland Chris Lumsdon.
Bruce Dyer then gave the home side a two-goal lead with his second of the game in the last minute and the visitors had Bob Taylor sent-off for violent conduct.
The Baggies did manage to pull one back in stoppage time through Neil Clement, but it was not enough to stop Barnsley from putting behind them the sacking of Nigel Spackman earlier in the week to record their third victory of the season.
