JONES LEAVES PLAINMOOR
Jones expressed his unhappiness at Plainmoor earlier in the season after losing his first team place to former Brentford keeper Kevin Dearden, and things got worse for Jones when Ryan Northmore was preferred as Dearden's cover.
The 24-year-old keeper arrived in South Devon in March 2000 when he signed in a £30,000 deal following a successful loan spell. He faced a tough task in filling the gloves of Neville Southall, who became a favourite amongst the Plainmoor faithful, but Jones endeared himself with a number of impressive performances.
He was under contract until 2003, but agreed a settlement with the club following talks with chairman Mike Bateson.
"I enjoyed my time at Torquay until this summer and I hope the fans remember me for the penalty save at Barnet on THAT day," he said.
Jones saved a crucial spot kick in the relegation decider against The Bees on the final day of last season.
"I have no ill-feeling but I was unhappy at being made to train with the youngsters rather than the first team but at least they treated me with some respect."
