FREIBURG DOMINATE IN SWITZERLAND

FREIBURG breezed into the third round of the Uefa Cup as they crushed a poor St Gallen side 4-1 in Switzerland.

The Bundesliga side were behind 1-0 from the first leg and were in danger of losing their grip on the tie as the Swiss club went a goal up inside nine minutes through Marc Zellweger, capitalising on goalkeeper Richard Golz's error.

However, Freiburg got back into the game through Lewan Zkitishvili, stabbing home from close range after a scramble from Vladimir But's (pictured) free-kick in the 11th minute.

It was But's strike again in the 35th minute that put the Germans in control, as his free-kick allowed Adel Sellimi to fire home.  This put Freiburg ahead on away goals and they sat back, happy to hit the Swiss on the break.

So it proved as But finally got himself on the scoresheet in the 75th minute, as he rocketed home a good lay-off from Ibrahim Tanko and Freiburg finished the scoring with eight minutes left as Sebastian Kehl got on the end of a cross to head the fourth.

Viking Stavanger were unable to overturn their 1-0 first-leg deficit against Hertha Berlin, eventually succumbing to a 3-0 aggregate defeat in the German capital.

Brazilian striker Alex Alves (pictured) opened the scoring after 18 minutes before Icelandic defender Eyjolfur Sverrisson put the game beyond reach with his header eleven minutes later.
