SCHOLES FACING HEFTY FINE

REPORTS in the English media suggest Paul Scholes could face a 80,000 fine for refusing to play in Manchester United's Worthington Cup clash with Arsenal on Monday night.

The Red Devils midfielder was dropped for United's 3-1 weekend defeat by Liverpool and is understood to have come to blows with coach Sir Alex Ferguson after only coming on late as a substitute.

Disciplinarian Ferguson also wanted the England star to join the reserves for the cup match with Arsenal 24 hours later but the flame-haired ace was reportedly furious at the request and refused.

Juan Sebastian Veron's arrival at Old Trafford has forced Scholes to play in behind the lone striker rather than his preferred central midfield role and reports are suggesting the 26-year-old could be on his way out of Greater Manchester.

Turin giants Juventus have been linked with the talented player who has been a cornerstone for United's success over the past decade.
