GUARDIOLA BACK IN SPANISH SQUAD

JOSE ANTONIO CAMACHO has kept to his word and brought Josep Guardiola back into the Spanish squad for the friendly against Mexico in Huelva.

The Spanish coach had said that Guardiola would be back in the Spanish fold if he was playing first team football and his move to Brescia has paid off with a return to the national side, after missing the final two World Cup qualifiers.

Speaking at a press conference, Camacho said: "It will be interesting for us to see what sort of form he is in."

A spate of injuries have given a number of players the chance to stake their claim for the World Cup finals with Valencia's Curro Torres coming in for Manuel Pablo at Spain's problematic right back spot.

Torres's team-mate Santiago Canizares is out with a broken rib, which sees Ricardo, Real Valladolid's busy keeper given the chance to impress between the sticks.  Meanwhile upfront a dream duo of Raul Gonzalez and Diego Tristan should see the Mexican defence tested to the fullest.

Surprisingly Barcelona have only one representative in the side - Carles Puyol, although if fit Luis Enrique and Sergi Barjuan would probably be in the squad.

Recreativo, Spain's oldest professional club are celebrating the opening of their new stadium - the Nuevo Colombino, by holding a number of prestige games including Spain's friendly and the home side will take on a Newcastle X1 on Thursday.
