KEY DUO SIGN UP FOR SCHALKE
Polish international Waldoch has signed a three-year extension until 2005 and has been joined by German star Andreas Moller, who has agreed a one-year addition up to June 2003.
"It was important for our plans that these two cornerstones of our team have decide their future so early," general manager Rudi Assauer told the club's official website.
"It is great for me that I can stay at Schalke. I didn't need to think about it for long. I am not the type who changes clubs frequently," said Waldoch, who, according to the German club, rejected an offer from The Hammers to stay in the Bundesliga.
"My decision to stay at Schalke is not about money," added Waldoch, in reference to the West Ham offer. "I'm very happy here at the club, the facilities and the fans are fantastic, my family is at home in the Ruhr district, the team has great potential and the Arena is one of a kind. Together there's still a lot we can achieve."
Moller, who had previously hinted he may leave the Gelsenkirchen club, admitted the Royal Blues hierarchy had persuaded him to stay.
"The manager (Assauer) approached me 10 days ago and said we should forget an extension. However the club wanted me to go into the new season anyhow," said the ex-Borussia Dortmund ace.
