IPSWICH COMPLETE LE PEN SIGNING

IPSWICH Town have completed the signing of French defender Ulrich Le Pen from Le Championnat side Lorient.

Le Pen can operate as left back or wing-back, and has been noted for his creative play down the wing.

Town boss George Burley has signed the Frenchman on a three-and-a-half year deal, with an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £2.5 million, being paid to the French side.

Le Pen had scored seven goals in the last two seasons, but it is as a provider from out wide that he has forged his reputation.

He was a key man in Lorient's promotion winning last season and has helped them to a mid-table berth so far this term.

Manager George Burley is happy with his new signing, telling the club's official website: "Ulrich is an attacking wide player.

"He has many qualities - a good left foot, is a good crosser and has the ability to take players on, in the mould of our former player Bobby Petta."

Burley is keen to build a stronger squad at Portman Road after not starting the season as well as he might have hoped after last year's exploits.
