OWLS TARGET SPARKY

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have made an enquiry for Blackburn Rovers striker Mark Hughes.

New Owls boss Terry Yorath is a big fan of the former Manchester United and Chelsea ace and would like to bring him to Hillsborough on loan to help boost their bid to climb up the First Division table.

Hughes has found himself on the sidelines most of this season and Yorath is hopeful that the chance of first team football may tempt him to move to Yorkshire although he admits he is unlikely to be able to afford Hughes.

""I doubt very much if we could afford his wages," said Yorath.

Stockport County also enquired about the Wales manager's position at Ewood Park and Rovers boss Graeme Souness admitted that he would not stand in his way if he wanted to leave.

"Mark has been magnificent for me," Souness told the club's official website. "If something came in that he really wanted to do, then we wouldn't stand in his way.

"He is, however, an important part of our plans at the moment. He started for us at Southampton and on Saturday, was a substitute against Liverpool."
