DOANE SET FOR NEW DEAL

BEN DOANE is on the brink of becoming the latest youngster to sign a new deal with Sheffield United.

The 21-year-old has impressed with a string of solid defensive displays this term and Blades boss Neil Warnock is close to thrashing out a new deal, similar to those signed by Michael Tonge, Michael Brown, Nick Montgomery and Phil Jagielka.

Warnock appears pleased with the attitude of his young charges, saying: "The best chance we have of progressing involves these lads.

"They have the right attitudes and they are not looking for ludicrous wages.

"I always say that if you don't go looking for money as a youngster, it will come looking for you further down the line."

Meanwhile, 21-year-old striker Andy Smith has accepted a three-month loan deal with Smirnoff IRL Premiership outfit, Glenavon.

The youngster is well thought of at Bramall Lane, and Warnock is keen for him to gain first-team experience.
