STURROCK SNAPS UP SON

PLYMOUTH ARGYLE have handed a 12-month contract to Blair Sturrock, son of Pilgrims boss Paul Sturrock.

The 20-year-old has been on an extended trial at Home Park after being released by Dundee United and his performances were monitored by the Argyle coaching staff, who recommended Sturrock should snap up his son.

"I think in all the reserve games he has played in, apart from the one against Yeovil at home, he has shown potential," Sturrock said.

"He plays the way I want my strikers to play and, to be fair to the laddie, I think he merits a contract.

"Had he not been my son I would have signed him straight away after the reserve games against Saltash and Torquay.

"He hasn't looked out of sorts in any of the training and definitely has great potential for the football club.

"Kevin Wills and Joe Broad are still developing as players and I would put Blair in that category as well."

Sturrock will fill the void left by Nicky Banger, who left the club last week after his three-month contract expired.
