WENGER: HENRY GREAT BUT TREZ NOT BIEN

ARSENE WENGER has vowed that Juventus will rue the day they let him buy Thierry Henry, and hit back at 'irritating' comments by the Bianconeri's David Trezeguet.

Henry played just a handful of games at the Turin-based club before they accepted a £10.5 million bid from The Gunners for the pacey forward - who will view the two sides' clash in the Champions League as a chance to prove that the fee was a bargain.

Henry has scored 66 goals in 119 appearances for The Gunners - but his manager Arsene Wenger believes there is still room for improvement.

"Thierry is one of my best signings and I'm sure Juventus now regret selling him," said Wenger.

"I believe that, if he improves his heading, he will be the top striker in the world.

"If you looked at his scoring record when he signed for us nobody would have said he was a natural finisher. But he has become one now.

"It didn't work out for him at Juventus because he didn't have long enough to prove himself there and he was playing in a different position.

"When he arrived here he was not convinced he was a goalscorer. But today he knows he can do that job. Now he is successful everywhere he goes.

"Since he left Juventus he has played in Euro 2000 and in cup finals. He knows he can succeed at the highest level and there is no doubt in his mind about his capabilities."

Trezeguet, who rocked the apple cart on Monday with some ill-timed comments about Patrick Vieira's possible defection from Arsenal, was brought in at Juve to replace his compatriot, but does not compare himself to his fellow French international.

"It is strange for me to think of Thierry as a rival," said Trezeguet.

"He failed to adapt to Italian football because he joined Juventus too early in his career. They had no confidence in him.

"But now he is back to his old self and I'm glad he is showing his true worth. He is very quick - but I am more of a classical striker than him."

Trezeguet annoyed Wenger with his statement that Vieira would leave for either Real Madrid or Juve dependant on which of his French team-mates proved more persuasive.

"I don't find it distracting, I find it annoying. I don't feel that Juventus has more to offer than Arsenal," blasted the French coach.

"Why would [Vieira] want to go there? I don't think Juventus is a bigger club than Arsenal. He is captain of our team and is very happy here so why would he leave?

"But a lot of people have tried to unsettle him. It never comes directly from Patrick but people who want him to play in their team.

"It's always the case that these players never say, 'let's buy a player who plays in my position'. They never want to lose their own position and you don't hear him saying they should buy a striker.

""If one of my players said, 'go out and buy Edgar Davids'. That would be disrespectful to Patrick Vieira, Ray Parlour and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

"We don't even think about selling Vieira and we've said that many times.

"We are a very ambitious club and that ambition is to be one of the top three clubs in the world and to achieve that you need to keep your best players."
