DAINO SET FOR PERUGIA

MILAN defender Daniele Daino is poised to join Serie A rivals Perugia on loan when the transfer window reopens in January.

The 22-year-old had only recently returned to the San Siro after cancelling a year-long loan contract with Premiership side Derby County.

Daino made just four appearances for The Rams, and after the man who signed him, Jim Smith, was replaced as Derby boss by Colin Todd, the full back failed to force his way into the first team picture.

On his return to Milan, he was never going to establish himself among the glittering array of stars at Carlo Ancelotti's disposal and a move away from the Giuseppe Meazza was inevitable.

He linked up with Perugia for a trial on Tuesday and it is expected that he will complete the formalities of the deal next month.

It will be the second occasion that Daino has enjoyed a spell at the Renato Curi, as he featured for Perugia during the 1999/00 campaign.

Perugia manager Serse Cosmi will be hoping he makes more of an impact this time around as he managed only eight appearances in his previous sojourn.
