DRAGONS TAKE VAN BLERK ON TRIAL

WREXHAM have taken Jason van Blerk on trial, with a view to a permanent move.

The Australian defender is looking for a new club after being released by Stockport County last month.

The former West Brom ace has not had a good time of it of late being released by The Baggies in the summer and then County after just three months.

The 32-year-old is set to play in the reserves against Barnsley later this week hoping to impress enough to win a permanent move to The Racecourse Ground.

Wrexham boss Denis Smith is keen to boost his struggling squad in a bid to help them climb the Division Two table and he is looking for free agents.

"With teams tightening their belts there are unfortunately fewer and fewer places available at each club," Smith told the club's official website.

"This has seen literally hundreds of professionals out of work in the Football League.

"We have used the situation to bring in both Jim Whitley, who has since signed until the end of the season and then Kevin Sharp.

"Likewise Jason is very experienced, with well over 200 appearances in English football to add to a spell in Holland.
