BAYER IN CONGO MOVE?

BAYER LEVERKUSEN are the latest Bundesliga club to be linked with a move for Colombian hit-man Edwin Congo.

Reports emanating from Spain claim Bayer have approached Real Madrid about the 25-year-old marksman, who has yet to make a first team appearance for the Spaniards.

Klaus Toppmoller, the Bayer boss, needs someone to take the burden off veteran forward Ulf Kirsten, with Paulo Rink leaving for FC Nurnberg, and the highly-rated Congo has emerged as a main contender alongside Brazilian Franca.

Meanwhile, Reiner Calmund, Bayer general manager, has denied knowledge of any transfer, declaring: "Whether he is yellow, black or brown I don't know who he is. There is nothing in it."
