ADE TARGETS NIGERIA CALL-UP

LEICESTER CITY striker Ade Akinbiyi has expressed his desire to feature for Nigeria in next month's African Nations Cup and the upcoming World Cup finals.

The much-ridiculed hit-man has still to represent Nigeria after a bust-up with then technical director Johannes Bonfrere prevented him from playing in the 2000 Nations Cup.

The 27-year-old, who vowed never to play for The Super Eagles while Bonfrere was in charge, is now waiting for the invite to play for Nigeria as Bonfrere has been replaced by Amodu Shaibu.

"I knew I stood little chance of returning to the team during the World Cup qualifiers when Bonfrere was sacked because Nigeria's chances were in the doldrums then, but I had expected my name to be among the 40 players the new manager invited for the Nations Cup in Mali," the forward declared.

The former Wolves man is hoping that Leicester's poor form in the league will not have any influence on his chances of making the Nigeria squad

"Leicester have not fared well in the league and we (the strikers) have not been able to find our rhythm as we did last year, but that does not mean we are not good," said Akinbiyi.
