McLOUGHLIN POISED FOR ROCHDALE MOVE

THIRD DIVISION promotion hopefuls Rochdale are hoping to cash in on Swindon's financial troubles by signing former Portsmouth midfielder Alan McLoughlin.

The Republic of Ireland international has been training with The Robins since being released by Wigan in October, and new Dale boss John Hollins is keen to add some experience to his young squad.

"What I've been looking at is the quality of passing and moving and I feel this needs addressing," Hollins said.

"Alan is an international and even though he's 34 he's still very fit.

"We are a young side in certain departments and we need to bring experience into those areas.

"We have experience at the back and a bright and sharp front line, and hopefully Alan will provide that little bit of invention we need."

McLoughlin was released from the JJB Stadium after making just four appearances this season.
