PSG REVEAL ANELKA ROW
Anelka will spend the rest of the season on loan at Anfield, with a view to Liverpool signing him permanently.
Perpere has now said that an incident last week led to 'everything falling apart' with the temperamental striker, and that he had to leave the club as a result.
"I long believed that Nicolas would have a future with PSG but eight days ago everything fell apart and we could not put the pieces back together," said Perpere.
"Initially a transfer was envisaged but there were not many clubs in a position to do that.
"Therefore we chose a loan deal with the condition that Nicolas go to a large club where he has a chance to play and get back his confidence.
"Given our excellent relations with Gerard Houllier, Nicolas went to Liverpool.
"The move was due to a number of things which have been over-hyped by the press and followed Nicolas, creating considerable pressure.
"I still think Nicolas is a good player. We knew Gerard Houllier was looking for a striker to replace Robbie Fowler and the deal was concluded in good conditions without crisis. Neither PSG nor Anelka are angry. It is life."
The former Arsenal star joins the club just as Czech striker Milan Baros completed his long-awaited move from Banek Ostrava, and will be a boost to Liverpool's title hopes.
