Rennes close in on Nantes striker
The 21-year-old scored the winning goal that secured the French title for The Canaries in May, but has struggled along with the club who are fighting against relegation this season.
Bastia were reportedly interested at first, but it is now Rennes that are in pole position for his signature.
"They contacted my agent who will get in contact with Nantes to see if my departure is possible," said Vahirua.
The Tahiti-born French Under-21 international played 15 times for the champions last season but has made just four league starts this term, scoring just one goal.
