Chelsea chief let down by Terry

CHELSEA chief executive Colin Hutchinson admits he feels humiliated after defender John Terry was charged with assault and affray.

Hutchinson had been pressing England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson to include Under-21 star Terry in the senior set-up, but the alleged nightclub incident has shattered those plans.

He also states that the incident, which also saw Blues midfielder Jody Morris charged with the same offences, has tarnished the image of both Chelsea, and football.

"Whenever we have met up with Sven, we've pushed for John to be included in the England squad, but now we have egg on our faces," said Hutchinson.

"It's not good for the image of the club or the game, and it's not good for the players' own careers."

Hutchinson also believes that measures need to be taken to curb the much-publicised excesses of recent weeks.

"It is time for the whole game to have a long, hard look at disciplinary procedures and the way we keep players off the front pages.

"Most clubs have a welfare programme for young players, but the problem is that we cannot be with them all for 24 hours a day.

"The youngsters, from having nothing, suddenly have everything and this is when the problems start."
