Reiziger keen on United - agent
MICHAEL REIZIGER'S agent Sigi Lens has revealed that Manchester United have made an enquiry to Barcelona for the defender and that the Dutchman would be keen on a move to Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old ace has fallen out of favour at Barca this season, having made only three appearances this campaign, all in the Champions League.
The Dutch international has found it hard to establish himself in Carles Rexach's plans with Carlos Puyol his first choice right back and Frank De Boer, Patrik Andersson and Philippe Christanval competing for the places in central defence.
Reports in Spain have strongly linked United with a move for the former Ajax and Milan star and Lens admitted that the Premiership champions are interested in Reiziger.
"I have heard that there has been some contact from Manchester United for Michael," Lens told planetfootball.
"Someone from Manchester United has made an approach to Barcelona and that is the situation at the moment.
"I haven't heard from Barcelona, but I know that they are not keen to let him go."
Lens also admitted that the player would relish a move to United as he has always expressed an interest in trying his luck in England.
"Michael has heard of the approach from Manchester United to Barcelona and he is very keen on it," said Lens.
"He would be delighted to come to United, but it is up to the clubs to agree to something.
"Michael has played for some of the biggest clubs in the world with Ajax, Milan and Barcelona, and he would fit into Manchester United as they are one of the biggest clubs around."
United could be keen on the highly-rated defender as they try to bolster their much-maligned defence.
The Red Devils have already conceded more goals this season at this stage than they did in the whole of last term and United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to plug the leaks at the back as they aim to retain The Premiership.
Reiziger's versatility would prove invaluable to Ferguson's options as he can play at full back or in central defence.
The Dutchman is contracted with Barca until the summer of 2004, but he could be keen on a move away from Camp Nou for regular first-team football.
