Posh raid rivals for Cowan

PETERBOROUGH UNITED have made a shock swoop on rivals Cambridge United for defender Tom Cowan.

The former Huddersfield full back has moved to London Road in a month-long loan deal and he is expected to make his Posh bow in Saturday's clash with Swindon.

Cambridge boss John Taylor has told Cowan he does not feature in his short-term plans and did not hesitate in letting him join their arch-rivals.

"He's not in my plans at the moment and they were the club that rang and asked about him, so he's gone there for a month. They didn't say it was with a view to a transfer but obviously if he does well then they may want to," he said.

Posh have a lengthy injury list and  boss Barry Fry was keen to strengthen his squad with a number of games approaching in the next few weeks.

"Because of our horrendous injury problems, particularly in the left back position, I have taken Tom Cowan on a month's loan," Fry said.

"He is a very experienced left-sided player whose presence will be a big asset as we go into a period with three games in the space of four days and nine in the next four weeks.

"I had to act quickly and spoke to the chairman yesterday and he agreed straight away that I should go out and get Cowan."
