Graaven looking to impress De Haan

HEERENVEEN are giving former Ipswich Town striker Guillermo Graaven the chance to win a professional contract in the Eredivisie.

Graaven had his contract terminated by Ipswich during December and travelled to SPL side Motherwell for a trial.

Well boss Eric Black did not offer the forward a deal, and he promptly returned to Holland to try and find a team.

Heerenveen coach Foppe de Haan invited him for a trial and he will have an extended spell at the Abe Lenstra in a bid to win a deal.

Graaven made his first outing during Saturday's friendly with Borussia Dortmund, coming on as a substitute in the 2-0 win.

The 20-year-old former Ajax ace had a torrid 18 months at Portman Road, suffering a broken ankle and ligament damage on his debut for The Tractor Boys' reserve team.

He was unable to impress George Burley on his return to fitness, and is trying to resurrect his career in his native Holland.

De Haan`s men are looking to mount a title challenge after the winter break, and he has outlined a striker as a priority, as they are the lowest scorers of any of the teams in the top six.

It remains to be seen, though, if Graaven is the man to fill the role.
