Keeper Weaver in Cobblers trial

NORTHAMPTON TOWN are giving a trial to Carlisle United goalkeeper Luke Weaver, who is surplus to requirements at Brunton Park.

The 22-year-old shot-stopper was transfer listed by Cumbrians boss Roddy Collins two weeks ago and is hoping to impress during his short spell at the Sixfields Stadium.

The trial was set up by Martin Wilkinson, who used to be in charge of The Cumbrians, and rated Weaver as 'one of the best signings that the club had ever made, 'touting him to one day play for England.

Things went sour for Weaver though, as he lost his first team place with a number of error-strewn displays and he has been unable to reclaim the number one jersey from Peter Keen.

Weaver, who once joined Sunderland in a £250,000 deal, is expected to play in a reserve clash for The Cobblers on Wednesday.
