Wiss completes Hibs switch

HIBERNIAN have completed the signing of Stockport County midfielder Jarkko Wiss on a free transfer.

The Finnish international trained with Frank Sauzee's side on Monday after signing a deal that will keep him at Easter Road until the end of the 2003/4 season.

The 29-year-old has been bitterly disappointed at the disastrous form of The Hatters this season, form that has seen them anchored to the foot of the Division One table and looking certain to drop to the Second Division.

Carlton Palmer is looking to trim his squad as the club look to at least secure their financial position although they seem doomed for relegation.

Wiss, who follows countryman Shefki Kuqi out of the Edgely Park exit door, said that he was happy the deal was concluded so quickly, but was still sad to leave.

"I'm surprised and naturally very pleased that the move has gone through so quickly," Wiss told Stockport's website.

"Hibs are a very ambitious club. They have a great stadium and the people up here have made me very welcome.

"I'm 30 in a couple of months time so it's pleasing to be able to secure some financial security."

Wiss had fallen out with Palmer, who was not happy with his performances, and that has enabled the deal to be completed quickly, and for a free transfer.

"It's disappointing how things have turned out at County, but I leave with so many happy memories," added Wiss.

"To hear my name being chanted when I scored on my debut against Athletic Bilbao was fantastic.

"And scoring the winner at Crewe in the fourth round of the Cup last season was another fantastic moment. I will never forget the way the fans celebrated victory at the end of that game.

"However, I must look forward now although it is sad that I have to leave so many nice people behind in Stockport. Apart from the fans the people who work at the club always went out of their way to make me welcome. I'll always remember their kindness."
