Kanu reveals French desire

ARSENAL'S disgruntled striker Kanu has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is ready to quit Highbury, and has said that France is his likely destination.

Kanu has long been on the fringes of the action under Arsene Wenger, but has figured in six of The Gunners' last ten outings.

Despite his increased presence on the pitch, the Nigerian international has become frustrated that he cannot hold down a regular starting place, and he has been linked with a move away from North London for some time.

Lyon have been linked with a move for the lanky trickster and, although he has had no offer from them, he says he is a wanted man in Le Championnat.

"Nobody wants to sit on the bench all season and certain clubs have enquired about me," warned Kanu. "This has done me good because it shows that people appreciate what I can do.

"I don't know about Lyon, but there are plenty of good sides in France who I could play for. I already know French players well through the ones at Arsenal and Patrick Vieira is a good friend."

Thierry Henry is Wenger's first choice striker and Kanu has to compete with Dennis Bergkamp, Sylvain Wiltord and Francis Jeffers for the other spot up front, and he is often on the wrong side of the manager's decision.

"Things are always difficult for me at Arsenal as they have so many goalscorers. I haven't been starting games but that is not because of my standard of play, it is as a result of the manager's decision."

Kanu is currently with the Nigerian squad in the African Cup of Nations in Mali, and he could be ready to sit down and discuss his future when he returns next month.
