Swindon placed under embargo

The Robins, currently in 16th place in Division Two, have been reported to the Football Association by West Ham United, who claim they are still owed £75,000 from the sale of striker Gary Alexander (pictured), now at Hull City.

Alexander made the switch to the County Ground in the summer of 2000 and he was subsequently sold to Brian Little's Tigers a year later in a cut-price £200,000 deal.

The news comes as a blow to Robins boss Andy King, who is keen to make changes and avoid the risk of being dragged amongst the relegation candidates.

"I would like the opportunity to freshen things up but this embargo means I can't," Swindon boss Andy King groaned.

"I can't make changes. The players that are here are the players I have to work with."

Swindon were recently taken over by a consortium involving jockey Willie Carson and the true extent of the club's crippling financial problems came to light.

Director Bob Holt was left feeling frustrated with the news as he bids to ease the clubs financial problems.

"It is yet another problem that has come out of the blue," said Holt. 

"It isn't the first unwanted 'surprise' we've had and it's very frustrating."
