Nik injury may force Clarets` hand

STAN TERNENT may be forced back into the transfer market to seek a goalkeeper, after Burnley's disastrous FA Cup exit at the hands of Cheltenham also saw regular number one Nik Michopoulos limp out of the action.

Greek star Michopoulos has torn a calf muscle and is expected to be out for at least six weeks - and with only the inexperienced Luigi Cennamo at Turf Moor, The Clarets may have to look for a short-term option.

There have been immediate suggestions that a loan move for highly-rated West Ham youngster Steven Bywater could be in the offing, although Ternent tends to favour experience.

Another player mentioned is Liverpool outcast Pegguy Arphexad, although he is currently on the bench as cover for Jerzy Dudek with youngster Chris Kirkland out through injury.

Meanwhile young striker Anthony Shandran has been loaned out to Saint Patrick's Athletic in Ireland to gain first team experience.
