Rovers in frame for Asta

BLACKBURN ROVERS are believed to be one of the teams in the frame to sign Torino's battling captain Antonino Asta.

Despite having just offloaded another arrival from Italy, Corrado Grabbi, back to Serie B on loan, Rovers are still looking to the country for new players.

Asta, 31, who is a virtual ever-present for Toro this season, is struggling to agree new terms with his club for a contract extension - and could leave for nothing in the summer.

Blackburn are watching the situation with interest, with suggestions that a three-year deal worth ‚é¼7.5 million (£4.5 million) may be tabled.

Asta has been with Torino since 1997, moving to Turin from Monza after working his way up through the league structure.

A tenacious and tough-tackling midfielder, the influential player scored four times last season as his side bounced back into the top-flight from Serie B.

There were even recent suggestions that the player would win a call-up for his national side, something the player admits is hugely flattering.

"It is beyond a dream," said Asta. "What player would not see it as this?

"But for now Torino are my national side for now, and I will give my all for them."
