Wolves go clear in second
Wolves moved four points clear of West Brom in second, and closed the gap on leaders Manchester City after coming from behind to beat Ronnie Moore's Millers at Molineaux. Alan Lee gave the hosts the lead two minutes before half-time but goals from in-form Dean Sturridge (69) and George Ndah (77), kept Dave Jones's men on track for promotion.
Croatian wizard Robert Prosinecki showed his class with a superb hat-trick on the south coast, but Pompey still managed to throw away the lead and end up at 4-4. Prosinecki kicked things off with a third minute penalty that was equalised by Chris Lumsdon's 15th minute strike.
Pompey took the lead again through Linvoy Primus three minutes before the interval only for Steve Parkin's side to level again two minutes after the break through Chris Barker. Prosinecki then took centre stage with a superb strike on the hour followed by a free kick that was just too good for Kevin Miller.
Graham Rix's men then pressed the self-destruct button once again when Primus was sent off and Lumsdon despatched an 83rd minute penalty, and Mike Sheron's brave header gave The Tykes a point in the dying moment of the game to cap an incredible match.
Millwall missed the opportunity to go into third place when they were held to a 2-2 draw by struggling Walsall. Richard Sadlier gave The Lions a 67th minute lead but Colin Lee's side showed spirit in levelling through Pedro Matias (76) and then taking the lead through Dean Keates's penalty ten minutes from time. The points were shared when Millwall got a penalty of their own two minutes later, and Neil Harris converted.
Crystal Palace did all their work in the first half of their game against Sheffield Wednesday, and three goals in six minutes gave them a 3-1 win at Selhurst Park. Clinton Morrison (31), Dougie Freedman (35) and Jamie Smith (37) did the damage and Efan Ekoku's 42nd minute strike was just a consolation for Terry Yorath's men.
Bradford City bad-boy Benito Carbone made amends for his refusal to sit on the bench against Preston by scoring the only goal of the game to give The Bantams a 1-0 at Grimsby, who had to play over half the game with ten men following Robert Taylor's dismissal in the 43rd minute.
Stockport continued their miserable run by falling to a 3-1 home defeat against Nottingham Forest. Gary Jones and Marlon Harewood put Forest 2-0 up after an hour, before Hatters player-boss Carlton Palmer pulled one back for the home side only for Leo Roget to put through his own net in the final minute to make it 3-1.
Gillingham move to within a point of their opponents Coventry City thanks to a 2-1 win at Highfield Road. Iffy Onuora's screamer from all of 35 yards gave The Gills the lead and Marlon King made it 2-0 in the 77th minute, with Jay Bothroyd getting a goal back late on.
Birmingham City's game with Crewe was abandonned during the game when a deluge of rain resulted in the St Andrews pitch becoming waterlogged and unplayable.
