Kluivert: I saved Rexach

PATRICK KLUIVERT believes that the four goals he scored against Tenerife saved Barcelona coach Carles Rexach's job.

Rexach is still under severe pressure following the Catalans' misfiring season that sees them on the fringe of European qualification in the league and lacking any kind of consistent form in the Champions League.

"Those four goals are for me and my team, nothing else," admitted Kluivert.

When asked if he believed this had saved Rexach's job, the Dutch striker admitted: "Yes, I believe that yes.  But not only me, the whole team.  But in Spain you can only save your coach for three days.

"If we lose against Real Sociedad the coach will have the same problems as before.  But I believe I have saved my coach."

In an interview with Libredirecto, Kluivert revealed that following reports of late night drinking and fraternising with women, both in Spain and Holland, his wife had asked him for a divorce.

"I have instructed my lawyers to look for justice and exert my rights, because neither the journalists nor the public know what happens when an individual or everyone writes things like that.

"The person most harmed from these stories is my wife, because in the street they watch her, the family calls her and asks if this is the truth."

It would now appear that things have been patched up at home, although whether this makes Kluivert want to stay in Barcelona is another matter.
