Duo leave Gay Meadow

SHREWSBURY TOWN have sent striker Rory Fallon back to Barnsley after a one month loan whilst ending goalkeeper Tony Malessa's week-to-week contract at the Gay Meadow.

The New Zealand-born Fallon made eight appearances for Town and despite making an impression with his performances, he failed to find the score sheet with the Division Three promotion chasers.

Malessa was brought in by Shrewsbury boss Kevin Ratcliffe as cover for the injured Mark Cartwright.

However, Cartwright has returned to training and it was decided that Malessa's services were not needed.

Fallon's return to Oakwell will free up a loan space at the Gay Meadow to bring in another striker, with Nigel Jemson injured and Luke Rodgers suspended.

On the departures of Fallon and Malessa, Ratcliffe told the Shrewsbury official website: "Rory (Fallon) did well during his stay with us, and has come on since he first came to us.

"With Nigel (Jemson) and Luke (Rodgers) missing, I'm going to have to bring in another striker, and this frees up that loan spot.

"Tony (Malessa) was a short-term signing and he's done well while he's been here, but now Mark's (Cartwright) returned to training, the need to have another keeper has gone.

"I'll be looking to bring in a new striker this week in time for the (Leyton) Orient game."
