Craig's short shrift for Marlet reaction
Short admits that his elbow made contact, albeit accidentally, with Fulham's record signing, but has accused the Frenchman of a disgraceful reaction that ultimately earned him the red card.
The sending off means that veteran Short will miss out on the chance of playing in the League Cup final against Tottenham at the Millennium Stadium, something the former Everton man was looking at as the 'pinnacle of his career.'
"I hate cheating of any kind," said Short. "I hate it if I see it in my team. We need to sort it out.
"I was sent off for a straight red card. There was contact, I admit it, but it wasn't malicious.
"I got the ball from Martin Taylor and I was getting closed down. You just use your arms to hold players off.
"Better players then me over the years have used their arms in this way. Paul Gascoigne does it and in my team David Dunn and Mark Hughes do it.
"You hold out your arms to shield the ball. Because I am tall my arms are always going to be high.
"I'm disappointed that he went down the way he did. This is my third sending off now this season.
"I got two yellow cards against Manchester United, and had a similar incident as this against Sunderland.
"My name is going to be associated. I play the game hard but I think I am fair. I never go out to deliberately cause injury.
"I've played in the game for 15 years, played in all four divisions and something like this does affect you.
"I've never made a proper final, and, if we lose an appeal that's it for me. It would have been the pinnacle of my career."
