Djorkaeff delivers last blast

YOURI DJORKAEFF has spoken about his relief at leaving Kaiserslautern, ahead of his unveiling at Bolton Wanderers on Monday.

The 33-year-old was desperate to leave the German outfit for the last eight months, before he was given clearance to leave on a free transfer and join The Trotters earlier this week.

The French international needs first team football to help his bid to make Roger Lemerre's World Cup squad and has signed a short-term contract with the Premiership strugglers until the end of the season.

"The Snake" fell out with Red Devils coach Andreas Brehme irrevocably last June and according to Djorkaeff the rift began after a petty squabble over a fan's request for an autograph.

According to Djorkaeff, Kaiserslautern had ample opportunity to sell him to a French club during the transfer window and seems to feel the German side acted out of spite.

"They had propositions from French sides, but they waited until the end of French transfer market to accept to let me go for free," Djorkaeff said.

"l'OM, Rennes, and Nantes asked for information. Some French clubs that were keen to sign me told me that no negotiation was possible. Bernard Tapie called me and told me that my chairman was mad."

Djorkaeff has said the move "is tailor-made for me", while his brother and agent, Denis, said he was very impressed by the welcome he received from all at the Reebok Stadium.

"I came last weekend and everyone welcomed me," Denis Djorkaeff said. "What an atmosphere! Youri will like the state of mind. If Bolton could stay in the Premiership, we could imagine extending his stay here."
