Reck Asked To Play On

SCHALKE 04 general manager Rudi Assuaer has confirmed that he wants veteran goalkeeper Oliver Reck to carry on playing for another season.

The 36-year old former Werder Bremen star was expected to hang up his gloves at the end of the current season when current Bremen keeper Frank Rost joins The Royal Blues, but Assauer now sees the situation differently.

"I would like him to continue on the playing staff", Assauer (pictured) told the club's official website. "Olli has no problem with the fact that he will only be second choice behind Frank Rost."

Reck, who has already been promised a job on the club's coaching staff after retiring, will make a final decision after discussing the situation with Schalke's future coach, his former Bremen team-mate Frank Neubarth.

Meanwhile, Schalke have named 45-year old Norbert Elgert as Neubarth's assistant coach from July 1st. The former Schalke player has been rewarded for his excellent work with the club's Under 19 team, with a two-year contract.
