Lambert rules out Scotland return

CELTIC midfielder Paul Lambert has again ruled out a return to the Scotland national team despite new boss Berti Vogts's call for him to come back into the fold.

Vogts, who was unveiled as the new Scotland coach on Friday, had admitted that he hoped that the talented midfielder would reconsider his decision to retire from international football, but Lambert insists despite the German's appointment he will stay on the sidelines.

Lambert, who signed a new two-year deal with Celtic on Friday, insists that all he wants to concentrate on is his career with the champions.

The 32-year-old admitted he would meet Vogts out of courtesy, but that he had no intention on going back on his original decision of quitting.

The former Borussia Dortmund ace retired from the international set-up last October after Scotland failed to qualify for this summer's World Cup finals and he will not be swayed by Vogts' praise.

"He (Vogts) hasn't even seen me playing for a number of years so it's entirely his opinion," said Lambert.

"Out of respect and manners for him and what he has achieved I will go to speak to him and tell him my reasons for quitting.

"But first and foremost I am only concentrating on Celtic and trying to make this club as successful as I can.

"I have made my decision and I would hope that he accepts my decision. I am just looking to make Celtic a success."
